Anubias Coffeefolia, also known as (Anubias Barteri var. Coffeefolia) or (Anubias Barteri Coffeefolia), is a hardy aquatic plant from the family Araceae. Native to the rivers and shaded streams of West Africa, this unique plant is admired for its dark green, wavy-textured leaves that bring depth and contrast to aquascapes. It can grow both emersed (partially above water) and fully submerged, making it suitable for a variety of aquarium setups and even paludariums. This slow-growing plant typically reaches a height of 6–12 inches, making it an excellent midground or foreground choice depending on the tank size. When planting, its rhizome should always remain above the substrate to avoid rotting, which is why it is often attached to driftwood, rocks, or other décor. Anubias Coffeefolia does not require heavy fertilization, but it benefits from regular nutrient supplementation in the water column. Liquid fertilizers can help maintain healthy leaf growth, while root tabs are unnecessary since this plant absorbs most of its nutrients through its leaves and rhizome.
This Anubias plant is one of the easiest aquarium plants to grow, making it ideal for both beginners and experts.
Anubias Coffeefolia grows well under low to medium light. Too much direct light may cause algae on its leaves.
Best kept in a range of 72–82°F (22–28°C), which suits most tropical aquariums.
CO2 is not required, but adding it can promote healthier growth and deeper leaf color.
Prefers slightly acidic to neutral water, with a pH between 6.0–7.5. It adapts well to different hardness levels.
This aquarium plant has a slow to moderate growth rate, so it does not need frequent trimming.
Propagation is easy. Cut the rhizome into pieces and plant them to grow more Anubias.
