Aquael BioCeraMAX 1600 is a powerful and effective biological filter media suitable for use in both freshwater and saltwater environments. The media provides an extremely large surface area (1600m²) and is composed of fine-grained sintered glass rings that help to stimulate the growth and development of beneficial nitrifying bacteria colonies from the genera Nitrosomonas and Nitrospira.
These bacteria use toxic metabolites from ammonia and nitrites to run their vital processes, eventually oxidizing them into nitrate form, which is far healthier for the inhabitants of your aquarium. Pollutants such as ammonium/ammonia and nitrite are quickly removed and the aquarium water becomes clear, clean and healthy. To maintain optimal filter characteristics, the filter material should be rinsed regularly and replaced after approximately 6-12 months.
