Bacopa Caroliniana - Live Freshwater Aquarium Plant

Bacopa Caroliniana is a hardy, slow-growing freshwater aquarium plant commonly used to add height and structure to planted aquariums. Known for its thick stems and rounded leaves, this species provides a clean vertical element that works well in midground or background placements.

Leaf coloration is typically green to yellow-green under standard lighting. When grown closer to the surface or under stronger lighting, new growth may develop subtle pink or copper-brown tones, adding visual interest without overwhelming the aquascape. Its steady growth rate makes it easy to manage and suitable for both beginners and experienced aquarists.

Key Features

• Upright stem plant ideal for midground or background placement
• Rounded leaves with sturdy stems that hold shape well
• Naturally slow to moderate growth, making it easy to maintain
• Adaptable to a wide range of freshwater aquarium conditions
• Can be trimmed and replanted to shape or fill open areas

Benefits

• Adds height and structure to planted aquariums
• Enhances visual balance without aggressive spreading
• Suitable for community tanks with fish, shrimp, and snails
• Works well for refreshing established aquascapes or filling gaps
• Beginner-friendly plant with predictable growth behavior

Care Instructions

Lighting
Performs well under moderate lighting. Higher light levels may encourage faster growth and warmer leaf tones, but strong lighting is not required.

Water Conditions
Thrives in freshwater aquariums with temperatures between 72-82°F and a pH range of 6.0-7.5.

Substrate & Placement
Plant stems directly into aquarium substrate with gentle spacing. Can be used in foreground, midground, or background depending on trimming and tank size.

CO₂ & Fertilization
CO₂ supplementation is optional. Liquid fertilizers or root tabs may enhance growth but are not necessary for healthy development.

Maintenance
Trim tops as needed to control height or encourage bushier growth. Cuttings can be replanted to expand coverage.

• Freshwater planted aquariums
• Midground or background placement
