Dwarf Baby Tears (Hemianthus Callitrichoides) Aquarium Plant

Dwarf Baby Tears, also known by its scientific name Hemianthus Callitrichoides, is one of the most popular carpeting plants for freshwater aquariums. Known for its tiny, vibrant green leaves and dense, low-growing coverage, it's perfect for creating lush, natural-looking aquascapes. Whether you're setting up a new tank or upgrading an old one, this plant adds a vibrant foreground that enhances any layout.

Benefits

  • Creates a thick, lush green carpet across the aquarium floor
  • Improves water quality by absorbing excess nutrients
  • Provides hiding spots for shrimp and small fish
  • Helps establish a healthy, balanced ecosystem in planted tanks

Dwarf Baby Tears Care Guide

Requires moderate care and thrives in well-maintained tanks with good lighting and CO₂.

Light

Requires moderate to high light for compact and healthy growth. Insufficient light may cause the plant to grow upward instead of spreading.

Temperature

Ideal water temperature is between 68°F to 82°F (20°C to 28°C).

CO₂

Supplementing with CO₂ is strongly recommended for optimal growth and a dense carpet effect.

Growth Rate

Moderate. With the right conditions, Hemianthus Callitrichoides will steadily spread across the substrate, forming a thick carpet over time.

Propagation

Propagates by trimming and replanting healthy runners or dividing the mat and placing in other parts of the tank.
