Banana Plant (Nymphoides aquatica) - Live Freshwater Aquarium Plant

The Banana Plant (Nymphoides aquatica) is a unique and visually striking freshwater aquarium plant known for its distinctive banana-shaped root structures and broad, floating leaves. This plant adds both texture and character to planted aquariums while remaining easy to care for and adaptable to a wide range of tank conditions.
Its unusual root system stores nutrients and supports steady growth, making it a popular choice for aquarists seeking a natural focal point without complex maintenance requirements.

Key Features

• Unique banana-shaped root structures that store nutrients
• Broad leaves that may grow toward the surface under proper conditions
• Moderate to fast growth under stable lighting and water parameters
• Adaptable to various freshwater aquarium setups
• Suitable for both planted and lightly decorated aquascapes

Care Instructions

Lighting
Performs best under moderate lighting. Stronger lighting may encourage faster growth and surface leaves, but high light is not required.

Water Conditions
Thrives in freshwater aquariums with temperatures between 72-82°F and a pH range of 6.0-7.5.

Placement & Substrate
Place gently on top of the substrate or partially anchor the roots. Avoid burying the banana-shaped roots, as they should remain exposed for healthy growth.

CO₂ & Fertilization
CO₂ supplementation is not required. Occasional liquid fertilizer may support leaf development in nutrient-poor tanks.

Maintenance
Minimal maintenance required. Remove older leaves if needed to maintain appearance and encourage new growth.

Perfect For

• Beginner and experienced aquarists
• Freshwater community aquariums

• Adds texture, shade, and visual balance to aquascapes
• Adapts well to a wide range of aquarium conditions
