Ramshorn Snails - Rams Horn LIVE AQUARIUM PLANT
These ramshorn snails take in air. Although the majority of them are extremely small, some can grow to be two and a half centimeters in length (one inch). The shells range in color from translucent to various shades of brown to dark, nearly black. The dark color appears to be caused by dietary materials not commonly found in home aquariums, despite the fact that many pond varieties are this dark shade.
The most common skin colors are black and red. The red coloration is due to the presence of hemoglobin in their blood, as opposed to other snails that have green blood (due to hemocyanin). The red color is revealed when melanin is absent. Rare pale pink and blue varieties have been selectively bred. These characteristics are recessive, and if they are crossed, the offspring will be affected.
