Micro Sword Plant (Lilaeopsis brasiliensis) - Live Freshwater Aquarium Plant

Micro Sword Plant (Lilaeopsis brasiliensis) is a popular foreground aquarium plant known for its fine, grass-like leaves and natural lawn-style appearance. This low-growing species spreads horizontally over time, making it an excellent choice for creating a soft, green carpet across the aquarium substrate.

With its compact growth and adaptability, Micro Sword Plant works well in both beginner and advanced planted tanks, adding a clean and natural look to freshwater aquascapes.

Key Features

Natural Carpet Formation
Spreads slowly across the substrate to create a lush, grassy foreground.

Compact, Low-Growing Habit
Short leaves stay close to the ground, making it ideal for foreground use.

Adaptable & Hardy
Tolerates a range of freshwater conditions and is suitable for low-tech setups.

Aquascape-Friendly Appearance
Creates a natural meadow effect that complements rocks, driftwood, and hardscape layouts.

Care Instructions

Lighting

Moderate to high lighting is recommended. Higher light encourages faster spreading and denser growth.

Water Conditions

• Temperature: 68-82°F (20-28°C)
• pH Range: 6.0-7.5
• Soft to moderately hard water

CO₂ & Fertilization

CO₂ is optional but highly recommended for faster carpet formation. Liquid fertilizers and nutrient-rich substrates support healthier growth.

Placement

Best used as a foreground carpeting plant. Plant small portions spaced slightly apart to encourage spreading.

Maintenance

Trim runners as needed to maintain shape and density. Growth is steady and manageable.

Aquarium Benefits

• Enhances aquascape depth and realism
• Provides grazing surfaces for shrimp and fry
• Helps absorb excess nutrients
• Creates a soft, natural foreground

Perfect For

• Foreground carpeting layouts
• Nature-style and Iwagumi aquascapes
• Shrimp tanks and nano aquariums
• Low-tech and high-tech freshwater tanks
• Aquarists seeking a clean, grassy look

Why Choose Micro Sword Plant?

• Natural grass-like appearance
• Compact and aquarium-friendly size
• Adaptable to different tank setups
• Excellent alternative to high-maintenance carpet plants

Important Notes

Micro Sword Plant spreads gradually, and carpet formation takes time-especially in low-light or non-CO₂ tanks. Growth rate, leaf length, and density depend on lighting, nutrients, and CO₂ availability. Some initial melting may occur after planting as the plant adjusts. Images are for reference only; live plants may vary in size and appearance.
